DIGITAL BODIES, A SHIFT iN NORMALITY

2020

VIDEO / PHOTOGRAPHS / SCULPTURES

During the lockdown – caused by COVID-19, the world shifted from a physical one to an online one. Everybody in their own private domestic space, forced to socially interact through online applications. People were sitting behind their desks and interacted with the faces they saw on the screen. We turn into talking heads without even wanting it. Everybody had to participate in becoming a digital being in this parallel online world, in order to avoid an alienation from social contacts. We became one in a very dull way.

Digital bodies, a shift in normality, is a document of this time. A retrospective from students of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie on the period that they couldn’t see each other physically. The project contains 4 different chapters, that highlight various parts within the theme of connecting through digital bodies.
